San Diego Family Dermatology offers narrow-band ultraviolet B (nb-UVB) phototherapy for patients with inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo, eczema, chronic itch, and lichen planus.

What is phototherapy?

Phototherapy is the use of light to treat psoriasis, vitiligo, eczema, chronic itch, lichen planus, and other inflammatory skin disorders. During treatment, the skin is exposed to a specific wavelength of ultraviolet (UV) light from a medical device commonly called a phototherapy unit. This light creates therapeutic changes within skin cells. For most patients, the cells begin behaving normally again, which substantially reduces or eliminates the symptoms of the skin disease.
